Now, I have to figure out how to play the darn thing -- it's my first keyed flute, and I have some bad habits I have to break. Wish me luck!!
Since I had a chance to look at it and try it out when monkey587 first got it back, I'll pass.

But a hint: those endcaps are quite distinctive :D

I had a serious bout of seller's remorse before shipping it off... I played it again with my improved embouchure and was surprised by how good it really sounds. If I'd had that tone, I probably would never have tried to replace it in the first place.

I'll post an mp3 of a tune on it followed by my current flute when I get home...

As promised... Here I am playing a tune on this flute, followed by my pratten.

I think the german flute holds up pretty well.

Nice one, Mizuki! The finger holes look rather small, esp. the F# hole - how does it play and how's the sound?

Thanks Gabriel,
The toneholes are not too small and I felt very confortable playing it.
It has lovely big sounds, easy to play with little wind.

I'm very happy to play such a great flute :)

And here is my best flute (i have 8 flutes :) ). Its and very old german (around 1900) 15-keyd flute in ebony. A=430 Hz. There is missing one key (long Eb). Fully restorated. Plays perfectly. Very rich and strong tone :)

The best sounding and looking of my Dizis

Post by Fred Merch »

This one is in the key of D (means key of A in our European standards).
The sound is beautiful, the craftsmanship extremely fine.
Crafted by Master Weidong Tao.

I love it so much :P

I also play a dizi in the key of C (means G), which is quite ugly, made in an old patched ill looking and stained piece of bamboo in Suzhu. So there is no point in showing a picture of it. But it sounds amazing. And I mean... AMAZING! And also, though as long as my arm and with holes my little finger can almost fit in, it is incredibly easy to play. You would never tell by seeing it that it can be such a gem.

That flute is lovely in mopane! It's great how Martins flutes look so simple yet play so well.

She arrived today...

An eight-keyed Maurice Reviol flute, made from Satiné/Muirapiranga and brass/silver-plated keys.

She plays beautifully, perfectly in tune, great keywork, easy to produce a good tone (though my embouchure surely needs some improvement). I hope that I'll be able to master Her some day...

What a beautiful instrument! You must be bouncing off the walls with glee!

How did you settle on this particular flute? How long did you have to wait for it? What were you playing before?

Not jealous, because my flute is killer, but extremely happy for you. If it plays half as well as it looks, you should be in heaven.

Congrats.
