Paul, I think Krispy Kreme is just a 'sudden ding' (that's Southern thing for those of you who didn't catch that)Paul wrote:

How could they claim being America's favorite doughnuts if they're only available in the South and a few Northeastern states?

Here it is. It opened in 1937.On 2003-02-16 09:48, Ridseard wrote:
FWIW the first KK retail store was in my hometown. It was a little hole-in-the-wall in the oldest part of Winston-Salem. I lived next door to the owner's brother.
KK may have been mainly southern but there was a store in Marion, Indiana by the late 40s.

Krispy Kreme is an evil plot to take over the world! When we lived in NC, drugged masses would line up outside the KK bakery at 5:00 every morning, eyes glazed, waiting for their chance to pick up bagsful of awful, sweaty donuts to foist on their unsuspecting newcomer colleagues. We thought we were safe when we moved to California...but just last year Nob Hill started advertising -- you guessed it -- Krispy Kreme donuts! "They followed us here!" I screamed. "There is no refuge!" To make matters worse, they've altered their formula for areas outside the South, knowing, perhaps, that Californians would not be easily enticed by donuts that started sweating as soon as you got them in the car.On 2003-02-16 10:47, SteveK wrote:Here it is.
