About a year ago she showed up at Nevin's for the Sunday session and was playing a Sam Murray. She gets a good sound on it, and it had the classic key ailments including a rubber band spring repair method.

And on her track on Wooden Flute Obsession vol. 3 was playing an Eb Flute made by Patrick Olwell. Another mix is on their "Blue Skies Above" CD.

I've seen her play a few times, using an Olwell (Nicholson model, I think).

I thought that she plays an Olwell Pratten. I know that's what she used to play anyway.

if i remember correctly (don't have it with me) she thanks Olwell in her book Oil for the Chain, but doesn't specifically say she plays them... i've downloaded a bunch of her mp3s but don't have any of her physical cds to check the linear notes...

anyway, thanks for responding everybody. ;)

cheers,

From her website:

Last time she was in Milwaukee, she was playing an Olwell, switching between D and Eb bodies.

I've seen Matt and Shannon several times with Sciucra, backing other artists and on their own. I've talked with them briefly after a couple of those shows. It's been a couple years since I last talked with them. In all those shows Shannon played an Olwell flute and a handful of Burke whistles just as their website documents.

No, I could not. But I suspect she would sound similar on either model.

I asked her this question about a year ago via email. Her answer was an Olwell Pratten. She also added that she had small hands but liked the Pratten so she "made it work".
