Pity me...
Yes, it's a worst-case scenario come true. I was helping with a roofing project with our church and managed to fall off. I broke my right wrist and (can you see where this is going?) my cast will not allow my wrist at an angle to play any whistle, not even a toot! All this time and no way to play! So I longingly brouse Ryan Dunn's whistle clips and weep quietly into my computer. [sigh]
Pity me.
Pity me.

Re: Pity me...
What a opportunity this is to Praise the Lord and learn how to play the harmonica. If you already know how to play the harmonica, what an opportunity this is to Praise the Lord with a harmonica that you already know how to play. (I figured out the basics of a harmonica in an hour. My nephew who has learning disabilities took a whole day but I was at work most of the day so he had to figure it out himself.)
Harmonicas can be found at your local guitar store. A good one costs $20, a cheap one $5. They can also be found at your local Cracker Barrel for $5. Go out to lunch after church on Sunday.
No pity here pal.

You've still got your toes
Seriously though, it's maybe time to do a lot of listening. I'm often over eager to learn a tune before i've got all of the detail down in my head, and then having to go back and relearn some bad habits later.
good luck!

Re: Pity me...
Sorry to hear about your injury. Did they put in screws and plates, or just a cast?
How about taking up the ukulele? You finger it with your left hand and you can use your free fingers on the right to strum. There are some really very passable ones available for under $50.
Check out Ukuleleunderground.com , which is sort of the Chiff and Fipple of Uke.

Re: Pity me...
Not sure how far of a fall you had off a rooftop, but feel blessed it's just a wrist and not something far worse! Sorry you can't play your whistles for awhile man!!

They put a plate around the one wrist bone.
Perhaps a harmonica...
You're right Matt, praise the Lord--the way I landed it could havr been my spine!

Ouch! So sorry, Riverman, and happy you're OK. Been there, done that. And under circumstances where I was also glad to have only a broken wrist.
If you hold the whistle transversely like a flute, does that give you an angle that your right hand can manage? Or how about trying a flexible mouthpiece extension tube? Someone here posted a photo of one recently.

Re: Pity me...
Falling of a roof to break your wrist while on a church project?
Huh.
It's either one of too things.
Not enough whistle praising or too much.
But really...
It's all about balance.

Re: Pity me...
You don't have to give up whistling. These guys seem to be able to do it just fine without hands.

Re: Pity me...
I recently saw a 3 hole generation whistle listed for sale on eBay. Order one of those and rest the end of it on your cast.

Re: Pity me...
Ouch, Kelly! Praying for a quick recovery. You were blessed to escape with only the broken wrist. However, you have my sympathy aka pity for not being able to play the whistle.
This would be a good time to take up playing mountain dulcimer. Lays on your lap or a handy table top, fret with the left hand and strum with the edge of the cast if necessary.
