How to improve your flute tone instantly...

Post by ChrisCracknell »

(May not work for everyone.)

Play ten minutes of GHB then pick up the flute. No longer on the GHB, otherwise your lips get tired. Really gets your lungs and diaphragm in the mood for shifting lots of air.

In fact, I find almost any exercise that involves my lungs having to work hard for a few minutes is good as a quick warm up for the flute playing.

Tell us something.: in two words, Rudall & Rose. but since a minimum of 100 characters is required, I should list a number of makers I found extremely interesting… I don't even know how much are 100 characters...

You know, given the context, I would place my guess on the Pipes being the right version of the acronym...

Normally I would play them for more than 10 minutes, but yesterday a friend had his pipes with him and I just tried them out for a few minutes, then we had a checking out of the flute... And I was amazed how well I sounded on the flute without any other attempt at warming up!

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

You're not seriously suggesting that simply stopping playing the pipes had nothing to do with it, are you?

Or perhaps, after listening to the GHBs for 10 minutes, anything would sound better... :-)
