Breakthrough in F natural

Post by Terry McGee »

Flutemakers and flute players through the ages have struggled with how best to deal with F natural. McGee Flutes' Genetic Division is excited to announce a breakthrough in this area. Initial announcements were made at the start of April, but the image below should help readers to appreciate the significance of the project and the general approach being taken.

Sorry to say, but Mozart and Handel wrote pieces for polydactyly piano players preempting and preventing potential flutists from finally becoming fixated on the flute.

PS. Please do not work on the pentatonic problem with phalanges.

No Terry.

You read that xray upside down, probably from living in the southern hemisphere where the bathtub drains backwards. That is the Left Hand. Instead of F natural, it will be the C natural that will benefit from this. And I will stop getting silly requests from people to put a thumb hole for C natural on my flutes.

Ah. At last, a thread about digital enhancement!
I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!

Reminds me of the world of the film "Gattaca", in which musicians (pianists) are genetically engineered for both innate talent and multiple digits, and composers specify polydactyl requirements, "Piano Sonata for 14 fingers in F".

Doesn't mention anything about counting meters in base 14. But Terry's, er, specimen might want to join: http://www.dozenal.org/

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.
