I have a Howard low C which I really like. I really like its lovely "flutey" sound, which probably means that I really yearn for a flute ...

If I could, I would have voted for a Bass G...Only because I have heard Hatao play one and have fallen in love with the sound. i would need some serious hand surgery to be able to play one though. Failing that I would also vote for Low A. Again I don't own one, but love the sound. It would be easier to reach too! I'll go back and vote Low A anyway.

Don't know what key it is, though.

That's a Paetzold recorder, Great Bass or below, in C or F. Basically a square organ pipe with keys.

.. it is better later than never.

You’re right AlonE, it is clearly a flute being played in that video.

However, after some research I found that:

John McSherry plays a Bass A at "Badai na Scadan" from the "Soma" album.

John McSherry plays a Bass A (Overton/Goldie) in ‘Autumn Child/Heaton Chapel’ from the ‘Otherworld’ album.
Seán Smyth plays a Bass Bb whistle in ‘Autumn Child/Heaton Chapel’ from the ‘Otherworld’

Seán Smyth plays a Bass Bb Whistle (Goldie) in ‘Inion Ni Scannlain’ from the ‘Merry Sisters of Fate’.

"If you look at the credits on the album it says "Seán plays Colin Goldie Low Bflat whistle" and on that track Kevin also plays a Bflat flute. On the album you can hear also a higher pitched whistle as well as the other two. But when we have seen them play live it is only the Low Bb flute and Low Bb whistle." Thank you Brigitte

I played an Alba low C that was here on tour. The stretch was not too bad and it had a beautiful sound. However I don't do well with low whistles below G.

I voted low C, because that's the lowest I've made from Snr Gonzato's instructions. The piper's grip stretch is bad enough on the Low D that I have to hold it at an angle so I don't get cramp in my right hand. I can play a few slow airs and waltzes on the low C. For us DIY plastic pipe whistlers, anything lower is just impractical.
