To an extent. We experienced the heyday.
My kids' generation does play such things (usually newer ones,) when they get together with cousins
during beach week and so on. (names I can think of...A Rhyme in Time, Scattergories...)
btw, in trying to remember the names of games they play I encountered the game Settlers of Catan
in at least 5 formats, so I know it exists.

Is cribbage a board game? I have also played hearts on a board on two saw horses, does that make it qualify?

Balderdash was a fun multi-player game.

Cribbage is a card game. Card Games are not board games. Very few people play three-handed Cribbage.

I've heard Settlers of Catan is a good game. Maybe I'll get to play it one day.

Where I live, in Buckinghamshire, UK, local people have produced a couple of board-games. I bought one called "Cut & Run" which bears a superficial resemblance to Monopoly, but is a simple gambling game. Once you acquire your three Casinos, you must cut and run - make one circuit of the board. You can be stopped in a number of ways. It's not a bad game.

Coup d'Etat, cutthroat but fun. Keep losing one of the daggers, find it, and lose it again.

Scrabble. Risk would be a close 2nd.

We had Coup d'Etat. We chipped the point off one of the swords. It was never the same after that. I haven't seen it at my parents house lately.

Scrabble.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

It's a little like Risk. Except that it doesn't suck.

1830: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1830_(board_game)

What makes 1830 a great game is that there is no random element. No dice, spinners, or anything else. It's all just about how well you can out-think the other players, and what choices they make.

Another absolutely fantastic game for 4 players is Caesars of Alesia.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1430

That website says you can fininsh a game in 360 minutes, but I think double that is more like it. I still have Ceasars of Alesia, but I haven't had the box open in 20 years. Can't find three friends.

*I* can play three handed cribbage, although it's years since I have. I can also play the great Ontario card game, Euchre. It's a bridge precursor not unlike Whist. It's still played in Ontario, some of the prairie states and provinces, and I believe some of Washington State. There are probably enough people from other parts of Canada here in any mixed crowd of adults in BC, but I dunno if it's played much. Probably at the Legion on a Saturday night in any small town, and in retirement homes all over.
