my mother has a head injury

Post by Walden »

My mother fell at work a few weeks ago, and injured her shoulder, and was without use of one arm for some time. She went back to work Thursday, but just now fell again, having slipped while mopping. There is a split in her head from the fall. She is complaining of head pain. She just arrived at the hospital by ambulance and is being seen by doctors now.

I hope it's not very serious and she recovers well and quickly.

She lost a lot of blood, but other than the effects of that the doctor thinks she'll be okay once she has stitches.

I'm sorry to hear it; you must be worried.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Head and scalp wounds bleed a LOT due to a high blood flow to the head. The good news is that this excellent blood supply also makes those wounds heal quickly.
Be sure to tell your Mom to report ANY symptoms to her Docs-- continuing headaches, vision problems etc. She's probably fine, but head injuries can really be a problem.

Walden - don't know if this will make you feel better or not....

I fell last December putting up Christmas lights. It was stupid on my part. I was standing on a chair (wrong equipment) and in the house by myself (bad move). I came down wrong and smacked the back of my head against the side of a cabinet. Split it wide open and wound up getting 8 staples in it.

No residual effects except I had just accepted the position of health and safety leader the week before. So I told my new boss I was getting SO into the job I was going to be the example of what NOT to do as far as safety.

Oh - and I ruined a perfectly good sweatshirt with all the blood.

I'm very sorry to hear that, Walden. Best wishes to your Mother, and to you.
Lost blood? Drink plenty of fluids. Beer is good...

...these days in the UK blood donation centres they have you drink half a pint of water before you give blood. You still get the cup of tea and the biscuits afterwards. I mean, cookies.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Try to get her to take it easy. Mothers tend not to...

She seems to be doing okay, but with the occasional headache.
