That looks like a beauty Rama, I was beginning to think I had the only one, must be worth around £15,000 or more!

In Galicia these are called "Requinta" and are played along with Galician pipes. Search that term on YouTube and you will see some examples in use. The traditional ones usually have one key, and are essentially the European simple system flute, in F - nothing special.

Hammy Hamilton and Dave Copley make great F flutes as well.

I'll be getting myself a Copley F or an F/G combo one of these days if I can keep one in the shop long enough to bond (it would take about a half hour for irreversible bonding).

Another band flute maker, I remember seeing their site when looking for keyed Bb band flutes.

They have a 6 key for £750.

thanks, it's quite a blast to play. found it in a junk shop. i didnt know they were so rare - guess i got lucky. interestingly, the case comes with a little belt loop presumably so it can be attached to your belt as you march along and play the flute ...

wish i had that lovely lot of flutes of yours....

I love my Tipple in F. Sounds good, light weight, nearly indestructible, what more could you ask?

I have an antique keyless in F. I like to play it as it gives me a taste of things to come ( if I practice!) - namely, never running out of puff and never getting achy fingers, flying over ornamentation deftly. I can play it faster and for longer than my Prattenish D flute. It's good for morale! By the way Norman that is one Handsome roll call of good looking flutes.....I have lingered over the picture lingeringly.....

If we ever did, & that's unlikely now, it'd be an identical copy of the Prattens F. We do have all of the reamers and other tools, sadly, just not the time.

F Flutes = FUN!!!

They are just such a lark to play. They fit the hands wonderfully and are just soooo responsive. They possess a wonderful lyrical tone that is simply enchanting...

Here's a picture of my boxwood Germanic 4-key in F (no maker's mark). Think of it a splendid alto in the Vienna Boys Choir as opposed to a Large Bombastic British. tenor. It plays very much like a little keyed traverso. I also like the keys, particularly on the RH section: has the G# and the Fnat-key is on the audience's side.

I have an antique, by Butler. Middle D's a bit touchy; I like the lightness of it though. Rick Wilson shows a Cloos in F, with, I think, 10 keys. If I could pick up the same I'd have Cloos flutes in every pitch - LP (C#), Eb, Bb fife, piccolo. Quite the ensemble.



11 keys. One of my LP Cloos - Clooses? - has a B foot, weighs a ton, like playing a car's drive shaft. Those German style flutes are pretty thick bodied; in an F flute that wouldn't be such a problem.
