The economy in pictures
A huge fleet of more than 500 idle freighters lies at anchor off the Malaysian shore near Singapore. Each is empty. Many are unmanned, and of the ones that aren't the crew consists of nothing but a single security guard to keep watch. These are ships that last year at this time would have been bringing Christmas to north america, but this year there's no cargo to ship.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

No Christmas in North America this year?
What a lovely thought that Christmas arrives in 500 freighters,
makes the three kings look a bit puny

Yeah, except that they are taking a short cut and just tearing down the mountains to get it.Innocent Bystander wrote:Fruit Cake again, then?

The bad guys are not from Appalachia. The bad guys just take all the resources from Appalachia, take all the money with them, and leave Appalachia in ruins.Walden wrote:The bad guys are from Appalachia?Innocent Bystander wrote: Maybe the bad guys will get some home-grown Appalachian coal in their stocking.

Hmm, the lost jobs in this country started with things coming in from cargo ships.

Almost everything in your country started with things coming off cargo ships.Daniel_Bingamon wrote:Hmm, the lost jobs in this country started with things coming in from cargo ships.

That's what happens when you replace iron men on wooden ships with wooden men on iron ships.Daniel_Bingamon wrote:Kind of an ironic way to end it.
