Lowden, I'm interested in the key block arrangement on your Firth/Hall/Pond - is the ring that holds the three keys going around the foot joint, or has it been filed away where no key is mounted? Could you supply a photo?

Thanks in advance!

By the way, I also had problems with most of the Grinter flutes I tried so far. They seem to require quite a bit of work to make them sound nice. I prefer playing over working, so I got myself something else... ;)

Gabriel, I uploaded the photos  .
Are they good enough to see what you want to check?

I asked Jon C to restore this when I purchased, so he may know better. I am pretty sure that this is in original condition, though.

As for the Grinter, I believe he is one of the best maker of R&R copy model. But I find that the Original R&R is much easier for me to get nice sound.
I think it is my problem since many great flute players (like Kevin Crawford and Mike McGoldrick) are using his flutes for recording and their sound is great.

Thanks for the additional photos! They're good enough :)

That flute is looking grand. I'd love to try it...

And of course Grinter flutes can't be bad. Kevin and Mike get a decent sound from it, so it can be done.

Tell us something.: in two words, Rudall & Rose. but since a minimum of 100 characters is required, I should list a number of makers I found extremely interesting… I don't even know how much are 100 characters...

  • African Blackwood
  • Paua Shell
  • Gold
  • Black Onyx
The maker is Maurice Reviol in New Zealand. The Paua is an abalone unique to that region.

Beautiful flute, Patrick

By the way, what does "concert flute" mean?, isn't that a simple system flute?

Hi Maeloc,

Yeah, that's just what some folks call them.

Not only is it a good looking flute, but it also plays nice, too!

Here's a Bb I've just collected from Tom Aebi, lovely rich dark tone. 20 year old Sth France boxwood, silver keys.
Not too hard to adjust to, only half a day and I'm getting the pewtered notes fine but it will take me a while to
get in full control of it.
