Bummer. He was a genius as well as a good human being who just loved music.

Serious bummer! My he "Rock In Peace". My first memories of music go back to hearing "How High the Moon" as little kid. That man never knew there was a box to think outside of. I guess I'll go pull out the old sunburst LP standard and have a wail in his memory.

What a shame. :( He was a true guitar legend. I always loved to watch his older videos. He was a better guitar player back in the day, than most guitar players in this day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iGXP_UBog4

Yes, a good life, and a gentle man. My first electric was a LP gold top. RIP.

Still got it? Wanna trade it for a whistle? :D

I had the worst Les Paul jones for years. I really wanted one, but couldn't justify the expense since I'd only use the guitar for noodling around. Finally I found a kit version of a LP clone and it actually came out pretty nice. Now I'm especially glad I have it.

My dad played guitar and mandolin. I grew up listening to Les Paul and Chet Atkins records.

Maybe they are all (my dad, too) playing an awesome jam in heaven right now!

No, I wish. Had to let it go for cash back in college. A 1967 gold top and one of those hideous padded Kustom combo amps. :-)

Still a Gibson fan, though, with a 1981 ES-347 semi hollow sunburst.

My first LP (the SG Custom didn't count) was a 1968 goldtop standard with p-90's. I sold it to Tom Scholz in 1979. Funny, had I kept it and sold it now I could probably pay for a full year of my youngest's college tuition.

It's easy to underestimate the impact of Les Paul on pop culture. The man was unique.

First Chester and now Lester.

That is so sad.

We went to see him in NY city, I can't remember the name of the club. It was such a small venue and we were going to see and hear THE Les Paul. When he came in he stood at the bar and my husband went up to speak to him and said how much he admired him and was looking forward to hearing him play and Les said in his broad accent "well you are going to be f****** disappointed then aren't you?"

We weren't of course

P.S. I do not like the use of the swear word but had to include it to get the full effect of what he said. It was so funny. Hope OK :-?
