whistle stand

I recently discovered the tin whistle (it took me about a month to figure out it is 'tin' and not 'thin' ), i got a feadog D, the one with the green mouthpiece
my local music-store had a bunch of Generation whistles, so i also bought the largest and the smallest ones they got and became the proud owner of a nice and big Bb and a tiny C that barely fits my fingers. Those flutes are fun, cost next to nothing and I can drag them along everywhere I go. I can not play much but as we say in Holland, in the land of the blind, one-eye is king!

now, i decided my modest collection (which will probably grow as my mom will go and visit Ireland this summer and she better bring me some of the good stuff!) needs a proper place so I cab show them off. I have some idea's for a very basic stand (block of wood and some round pieces of wood) but I was curious how you guys show off your collection.
perhaps you have some nice idea's for me?

All you need is a piece of wood and a bunch of dowels. Simply drill holes in the wood that are the same size as the dowels and push 'em in! Just make sure the wood is wide enough to prevent tipping...

If you use the search function you will find a myriad of stands and racks posted by people over the years. Lots of good ideas peppered through the site.

I bought a few old pipe (smoking) stands from eBay - they make nice whistle and pen racks too. I also have bought nice pieces of burr elm that are going to have thicker dowels mounted into them and those dowels covered in baize to sit low whistles on. Should make nice shelves for the lows - when I get round to putting it all together...

I don't display my whistles but I keep all too tweaked whistles and other things in a nice vase. A clear vase would display whistles nicely and not involve power tools or any work.

that vase-thing is a great idea! simple, elegant and no work at all
and I don't have to find suitable wood, wait for someone to not notice me take the powerdrill (I am rather dangerous with powertools) and so on

Back when I was making whistles, this is exactly what I did to make a drying rack for whistles that had just been treated with tung oil.

you can actually paint the whistles? cool....
lots of opportunities arise here.... who would have known this when I got that first magical whistle a month ago.

about the power-drill... my dinner table still proudly shows the scars from last time I got my hands on it without supervision
and behind each picture on the wall there are at least 2 more fail-holes

so making a flute-rack should prove to be a fun, entertaining and more or less hazardous job

I'm planning on using the dowel-method (sounds alarming!) for a whistle stand, then mounting it as a shelf in the music corner of the living room. I suppose the vase would work, but I'll end up knocking the thing over. My wife knows better than to give me a vase.
