The Quilt from HELL
Here's what I've been working on since January- this quilt!
It began with three 6 pointed stars that were among my grandmother's quilt pieces. They didn't match anything else and I was thinking...what strange colors...when I realized they were VA TECH colors and I had a niece getting married in July. She and her fiance are VT alumni, into all things VT... I needed to think of a wedding present....
That was my downfall....
The idea is that the stars are falling apart and are ending up as tumbling blocks at the bottom. The letters V and T are quilted into the maroon in the middle. All of it is hand quilted.
With no pattern, and these three stars I began, and in spite of vowing to trash the thing on more than one occasion, I finally finished it three days before the wedding. I feel like I've been released from a quilt prison, and I have the scars/callouses on the ends of my fingers to prove it. I actually got to do something other than quilt for the last two evenings.
They were warned, it is officially named- "The Quilt From Hell".
I finished it at my mom's house so here it is on a bed, the quilt is queen sized, but the bed is only full so it's a bit big- then Lil was determined to get in the pic , oh well........
The moral of the story, If you are going to make a quilt, for goodness sakes, have a pattern and don't use 6 pointed stars -those octagons are a pain and the Y seams are a nightmare.

Re: The Quilt from HELL
That is absolutely lovely!
It looks like it took a lot of slow, painstaking work.
I have a quilt that was quilted for me by my mom and dad and my mom's sister. It's one of my most prized possessions, and I wish that they were still here for me to tell them so.

I have several of my grandma's quilts. My favorite is a plain quilt, just rectangles of various sizes-BUT- I can remember her wearing the dresses that ended up as a lot of those pieces, or curtains she had at her house, so it makes her seem close.peeplj wrote:That is absolutely lovely!

When we snuggle under a family quilt, we are all wrapped up in love.

It's beautiful! It may have been a royal pain to make, but the end result is stunning!

Looks heavenly to me...
That'll be something they cherish forever. Good work.

Re: The Quilt from HELL
The image/design is very metaphorical. I'm not quite sure of what yet. Sky, stars, falling or floating bits, structure below...need to think about this.
Lil should be in the pic, btw.

It pleases me. Both in concept and how it was delivered the quilt works.

That is very cool, it shows off your artistic side.

I saw a quilt display at the local museum. That quilt would be one of the prettiest ones there. Really.

That's a very nice quilt, Cowtime. I liked the idea, before I could see the picture (blocked at work) and the picture was much as I imagined it would be.
