Back in the day....
Dublin in the seventies...
The streets were deserted, nobody around at all. Everybody was sat at home watching Kung Fu. Two minutes later, after the program finished, all the kids were back outside, working out the moves, throwing the shapes and getting into it.
Shortly after that there was all sorts of Schools and "Academy's" knocking out lessons in the black art of Kung Fu.
Every kid in Dublin was either a fan or a non fan.
Shortly after, or maybe before - it's been a while - out came Bruce..and the Dragon.
Well that was a weird time...It was impossible to walk from one end of a street to the other without having to walk by a few kids who were rehearsing their moves.
Many the time I dodged some weird version of something that David or Bruce had spent years working on.
Getting past that with a nice little swerve, to avoid any damage to meself, I would hear some little bollix muttering something about Grasshoppers.
Around that time I was getting into Poetry and discovering Roger McGough...
He has a wonderful line about.. These guys who go out and night and look for pale young men against whom they may defend themselves..
I used to give them a slap and tell them to F*ck Off... before I tell their Dad.
May he rest in Peace.

I suspect you'll end up being right, but some reports tonight are that the family's been told that his hands were bound behind his back, and so there's foul play talk.s1m0n wrote:Ha! According to the emergency crews who responded to the scene, reports of his hands having been bound were untrue:Dale wrote:

My guess is that someone in his management team, or in the family itself, started that rumor...perhaps trying to avoid negative publicity.

Self-bondage isn't an unknown paraphilia, either. I suppose that's also a good way to disguise a murder--all kinds of people behaving oddly can be attributed to the embarrassed family's cover up, or the police reaction to same, or the family's refusal to believe the 'he was a perve!' conclusion of the investigators.
Finally, there could be a middle ground--someone who was in the room when the risky sex went wrong, and who tidied up and then split. There is (I'm told) no way to do asphixiation safely. For some the risk is part of the thrill*, but the unfortunate thai callgirl (or boy) hired to take care of the other end of things knows that if something goes wrong and the client dies, it's going to be no fun for them if they're still around when the cops get there.
*I no trouble believing that someone into martial arts might also be into risk-taking and dangerous sex.

It's too bad though...not to be able to just die quietly, even if it was an accident and due to a somewhat offbeat practice.
The social "estate tax" on celebrity I guess.

Yeah. I think about that sometimes. In a way, once you're a celebrity you can never go back. When you're a celebrity, people want to know all about you and generally wish you well. If your star falls, you become an "ex-celebrity" and people still want to know all about you and enjoy seeing you fall in full view of the world. Salinger was on to something.emmline wrote:It's too bad though...not to be able to just die quietly, even if it was an accident and due to a somewhat offbeat practice.

Bill Murray is apparently extremely reclusive. He's evidently lost out on more than one movie role because his agents can't find the guy for stretches of time. And yet, when he had some problem with his behavior (some alcohol related incident, I think) a year or so ago, it was still all over TV for a day or so.
