I finally got to see the new Star Trek movie yesterday. I thought it was very good, but it made me nostalgic for the original series. Modern sci-fi movies, with their fantastic special effects and extreme action, simply don't evoke the sense of wonder and imagination that I had as a child watching the original Star Trek on TV. I suspect this says as much about me as it does the movie.

Still do. Prefer it to movies and TV, actually. :)

Saw the movie in IMAX yesterday. Fun stuff.

A friend of mine sent me this link, though, which is pretty funny (I guess there's only one way to start a space epic...):

Went and saw it yesterday...great fun...good flick.

I thought it was brilliant to create the alternate reality/timeline thingy. Otherwise the writers would have had to spend enormous amounts of time researching everything ever said in an old ST episode for this and every following project. Gave the whole thing a new life IMO. Now they can do anything they want. :)

I'm pretty certain that was their intent from the get-go.
