Not familiar with that part of Iowa, but apparently there is a deep conyon that runs through the area. :really: That was my only questionable (to date) scene.
I think I can Dubuque the myth that there are no canyons in Iooahhwa.

A lot of things could happen between now and 2233.

Tell us something.: "Tell us something" hits me a bit like someone asking me to tell a joke. I can always think of a hundred of them until someone asks me for one. You know how it is. Right now, I can't think of "something" to tell you. But I have to use at least 100 characters to inform you of that.

Actually, it looked more like a large quarry than a canyon. Definitely man-made--no side drainages, lots of score marks on the rocks. So no big problem there.

I assumed it was a quarry where they were possibly mining metals for the shipyard... :-? :D

Good point and I noticed that. I was kinda waiting for Wyle E. Coyote to whistle down into that canyon and then there's be that perfect comic pause and that little distant puff of dust.

Yeah, there was, when the car hit the bottom. Didn't you catch that?

Speaking about the science of the film, did you notice that the car didn't explode when it hit the bottom? Apparently, 'vettes no longer run on flammable petroleum.

Remarkable that a filmmaker would give up any opportunity for a good explosion.

I just got back from the movie. I am a Star Trek fan from way back. I don't know if I can still do it, but at point, I could identify any episode of TOS with the title and plot summary after viewing a 15 second clip from any part of the episode. I watched all the TV series, up to the terrible Enterprise.

Thumbs up on the movie. They have a good script, the action keeps moving, there is character development, not too much fluff, tried to keep the main characters true. "Sylar" [from the TV series Heroes] as Spock was a good choice. Turns out that the actor campaigned for the role.

As a long time fan, some things were annoying. The time travel, not letting Shatner have any cameo role, even in the background, are minor annoyances.

Cars exploding when they fall over cliffs is mostly a film making device. The petrol may ignite and start a fire but it probably won't explode.

The geology, I think, would be wrong for Iowa, didn't look to be much limestone. But it looked pretty close to Idaho.

BTW, next time you meet a resident native Iowan, have him or her say "Iowa". Odds are they will pronounce it "Iöwa". A subtle thing, but a reliable shibboleth should you ever you need it.

That's the way people from Minnesota say Iowa, I's heard it on the radio.
