Man, that's cute.

This thread has once again reminded me of a great XKCD:

Lolpandas work, as do a few other animals. Loldogs are strangely unfunny, for reasons I don't quite understand. Maybe they're more self-aware in a way cats aren't.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

We've been around that block before, s1m0n. Thinking you'll convince a catfancier of that is just crazy.

I've noticed that, too, and I'm more a dog person. I think it's a combination of things. Most dogs are snoutier, so less neotenous and cute. They're larger and more human-sized, which makes their interactions with an "oversized" human domestic landscape less cute. They spend their life mostly on the floor/ground, not climbing around on walls and furniture, etc. They don't have the impulse to crawl into nooks and crannies then peek out charmingly. Their appeal is in how they interact with the human social world more than material world, something which is captured less readily in still photography (though dog videos can be very funny).

I think this is close to the bone.

Now, that famous video of the skateboarding bulldog was entertaining as all get-out. An exception to the norm, I would say, because he wasn't interacting with humans or other dogs or creatures, but apparently just skateboarding around for his own enjoyment. While I realise it's more likely that he was trained and rewarded to do this, is it also possible that a dog would simply take it up on his own? I have no idea.
