Next Chapter: Revenge of the Penguin

Post by Tyler »

Sorry for the long hiatus.

Life went a little off the deep end for me a few months ago. After being laid off from my job this past February (after having my job outsourced to India) I kind of sunk into a depressive slump and didn't feel very social for a very long time.
I didn't think it would be, but being a stay at home dad was kind of a blow to my ego on some level; I'd never been unemployed before, never had to ask for help, and had no experience previously to draw upon. Thankfully I'd had several thousand dollars saved up, and that carried us for a while midst attempts at finding another job.
This past week I was able to secure a new job doing in-house software, ColdFusion and web development for a small credit consulting company as well as administering the Linux side of their network and IP phone network.
Right now I'm the only full-time IT guy, and two days into the job they told me they expected me to act as the de-facto supervisor of their small IT department.
needless to say, a part of me is scared sh*tless; management experience, yes, IT experience.... not so much "official" experience :D :P
While it's cool as hell to have literally walked on to this position, the learning curve is about as steep as I've encountered.
If all works out well we should land on our feet just fine and I'll be less of a stranger.
:)

Hey congratulations on the new job! Good to hear things are looking up for you

I was doing Coldfusion and PHP development for the last couple of years, it's pretty easy (Coldfusion especially). I'm sure you'll have no problems getting to grips with it.

Congratulations!

Good post, you said a lot, and I enjoyed reading it.

BTW, don't sweat the job title. After all, they had to call you something.

Redundancy is a nightmare. Even when you know it is coming, and you think you are prepared for it, it still knocks seven bells out of you. I've been made redundant twice, and it looks like a third time may be coming.

Congratulations(tm) on the new job. Learning is good!

I was wondering about you not too long ago...I think I was drooling over a Mini or something, and I wondered where you've been ;)

I'm sorry about life caving in a bit, but it's good that it's all working itself out for you now. It's good to have you back :)

Congrats on the new job, and I'm glad you're doing better. I know exactly the kind of ride you've had.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')
