I felt a bit of jealousy looking at those fine whistles. Must...have...more...whistles!

I have a short list of wood makers that I might order my next whistle from. Then I heard from an owner of one of my contenders that she loves her whistle but plans to sell it because it is too loud for home use.

It might be useful to mention if a particular type is loud/med/quiet. After all, some will only want loud (session) and some will only want quiet (apartment).

Tell us something.: I'm just trying to update my profile. I need to change my location since I no longer is living in Sweden. I'm still playing the whistle though for the most time I'm just a lurker on the Chiff and Fipple board.

I have a Busman high D in Cocobolo with brass fittings and also a high D in Bocote with brass fittings made by C&F member "chas". Both are great whistles!

Cheers,
Anders

If you're buying a whistle directly from the maker, they can generally make it louder or softer depending on your wishes.

well... i have a D/C set of Blackwood O'Brien Rovers. Absolutely wonderful. these are my first wooden whistles. i'm hooked.

the song "Ashokan Farewell" was meant to be played on a C whistle made of wood. i don't care what anybody says. that song on an O'Brien is a little piece of heaven. i play it over and over, and it is just as wonderful every time.

Thank you David for making such wonderful whistles.

be well,

jim

I have an Oz Vambrace D whistle in Blackwood/Sterling silver.
I really love this whistle and most of the times I have a performance, I play this whistle. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECP2DT0PU2A)
I like the sound of it and it also plays just like I want a whistle to play.

I had a chance to meet Jay Ungar who wrote Ashokan Farewell a few years back. I told him I played that tune on a whistle and he said that he never thought of that, but he liked the idea.

Other than some old souvenir-type whistles that are essentially unplayable, my only wood whistle is a Blackwood/silver Sweetheart in D.

Regading Ashokan Farewell, do you have a source for a score? other than the one posted on Paul Hayward's site, which I've been told isn't exactly accurate, all I've found are piano scores and I have no idea how to play one on a whistle.
