Right back at you. My hometown had a Mayday parade and everything. There were a lot of Eastern European Immigrants. Everytime I wish someone a Happy Mayday where I live now, they call me a communist. I am a communist but it annoys me that the communists ruined a perfectly good holiday.

They're actually having a "Siete de Mayo" celebration at work this year (well, they're having a taco bar, about as big of a celebration as we get). I don't know why they can't do it on the 5th, but there must be a reason.

Who else use to have a big to-do at elementary school on May Day? Surely it wasn't just me...

With a formal court-I remember a fancy orchid organdy dress my mom and grandmother made for me to wear because I was one of the dancers who wound the ribbons 'round the may pole. :o

Good tunes there Davy- that third tune is "Red River Valley" to me :) - I kept thinkin' he's gotta have Dick Gaughan....then I found him :D

and I'll add another...

Hi cowtime

I thought about putting it in, but there was no live version on youtube, and I already posted Tom Paine's bones.

Here's a couple for you.

Right! Forgot it was Bealtaine last night. I was wondering why there was a palpable restlessness in the air. People were commenting on it. Well, there you go, then.

There's a local Oirish bar that celebrates Cinco de Mayo big time. Anything to draw the drinking classes; these guys do pretty well for themselves. Anyway, I used to keep telling 'em to blazon their banners with "Cinco de Maigh Eo", but not only did they not appreciate the subtle brilliance of my joke, I came to realise that they can't even misspell "Róisín Dubh" the same way twice. Some things are just better left in a theoretical state.

We celebrated it as "Mother Mary Day" in my high school. We had a special mass with all our moms in attendance and said a decade of the rosary while we crowned the statue of Mary in the campus grotto.

Hmmm...come to think of it, I was in the May court the year I was a senior which was...gulp...30 years ago.

Nowadays it's just an excuse to sing "Thugamar Féin an Samhradh Linn."
