Thankfully yours.

Post by Dale »

On a personal note. My daughter was in a car wreck today. She's just fine. Air bags deployed, car (2002 Toyota Corolla) totaled. The other motorist (who evidently ran a red light and hit her), is also fine.

I'm so glad all are ok.

Oh my goodness, Dale! That is my worst nightmare. Thank goodness everyone involved is ok...this, of course (hopefully) includes you. Stress over these things isn't very much fun, even when things end up ok.

Children are nothing but worry. Remind her of this at every opportunity.

Well, she's just an hour down the Interstate and I was there in, well, an hour. Amazingly, her face is showing no signs of the airbag impact. She had that burning sensation on her legs from the airbag gas (she was wearing shorts) and her back was a bit sore. The paramedics washed her legs down with saline on the scene.

But, she's just fine. The hassle of getting the car towed away, sent to a body shop, calls to insurance company, etc., almost seemed like a pleasure once I knew she was ok.

I'm sorry to hear the news, but I'm glad things worked out more or less OK.

Never understood why nails through the foot are illegal. Ya know where they are, what they're doing, hard to get into trouble nailed to the floor. Jeesh, what is with this country? Dave? what are you doing with that nail, Dave? Dave?

...and yet: What would we be without our children finding their own ways - as long as they stay somehow connected with celtic music, that is... :D
However - I am really, sincerely glad it came out like that...

My oldest totaled one Subaru Forester, rear-ending a friend's mega-SUV which didn't even show a scratch.
The Soobie was totalled...airbags, everything. All were fine.
The younger two have, thus far, avoided calamity.

The boy, at 17, has a learner's permit, but has zero interest in driving. That's fine. I think it's for the best in his case.
Maybe he can get his license when he's 25, and finds someone else to ride shotgun for his 60 supervised hours. I think
I've used up all my driving teacher potential. All gone.

Since I am a childless adult, one of my friends sent her oldest kid to me for those supervised driving hours. She couldn't take it. I could see why. Mothers (and Fathers) shouldn't have to do that.

That's a scary place to be. Been there, done that, and you are right, the red tape following such a wreck is no big deal when they are ok. That's really all that matters. :)

Tell us something.: "Tell us something" hits me a bit like someone asking me to tell a joke. I can always think of a hundred of them until someone asks me for one. You know how it is. Right now, I can't think of "something" to tell you. But I have to use at least 100 characters to inform you of that.

Wow, Dale. I'm so glad she's OK. Thank God.

So, when are we forming the posse to go after the schmuck that hit her? (in Christian love, of course)

My daughter was in a fatal accident when she was just sixteen. Her best friend, who was driving, lost her life. It was a very long 6 hours before the doctors determined that my daughter would survive.

A parent's worst nightmare, without doubt.

My daughter struggled with survivor guilt more than she was able to say.

I still grieve for my daughter's best friend, and her family, even though eight years have passed.

I'm glad for you, Dale, that there were no worse outcomes. Very glad. Raising children is way too underrated, and way too scary.
Every time I turn around, I wonder where I've been.
Time to stop turning round, I guess.
