Flute sitting service

Post by Carey »

Sitting here noticing the weather gage on the wall says the humidity is currently 70%, and realizing that it's usually up there or even higher here, and combining that with the questions about what to do with a cracked flute, I thought maybe I could offer a "flute sitting" service for those times when you have to go away from home for an extended period and would want someone to see that your pride and joy was properly humidified and even played on a daily basis. No charge, shipping only! Such a deal! What do you think?

(where was this idea 14 days ago?)

I thought sitting on flutes was usually rather deleterious to their condition and long-term prospects? Though I see on opening the thread that that wasn't what you meant...... NOT a good line in advertising!

FWLIW, I have absolutely no idea of the humidity here, but it isn't raining....yet!

Well, after trying a few towns in Wales, but wanting to avoid the coast just to see, I ended up with Chester, England at 77% currently, so I imagine you could offer the same service for that side of the pond. But it might be Spain before it's dry enough to matter to someone.

Ahh, Chester...reminds me of a joke, if I may:

Three English lads survived a plane-crash in the Moroccan desert. As they wandered, lost and starving, they came upon the corpse of a recently deceased camel, and immediately fell to squabbling over who was going to get what bit. Finally, one said, "All right, I'm from Headford, so I'll eat the head."

"Great," said the second, "I'm from Chester, so I'll eat the chest."

The third, looking a bit glum, said, "Well, I'm from Arsenal, and suddenly I just don't feel that hungry."

Fairplay to you! Chester is about 14 miles from where I'm sitting - lower and nearer the coast/river estuary, so maybe a tad damper, but probably little in it!

Nice one, Rob! :D That just about sums The Great Wen up too - the a******* of England!

Tell us something.: I play fiddle, concertina, flute. I live in NH. Lived in Kilshanny, Co Clare, for about 20 years. Politically on the far left. Diet on the far right (plant-based fundamentalist). Musically in the middle of the pure drop.

And of course a lot depends on how you position the flute when you sit on it.

:really:

Impalement on one of those flutes-turned into a lamp-stand? Or for that matter on a flute placed on one of those little floor tripod stands......

:o Y'know... I keep my flute on one of those little stands right next to me most of the time.

Suddenly, I feel obsessively compelled to slide it more towards the corner of the room. Whoops! :really:

"Whoops!" indeed! Though I think some less restrained expletive might ensue if it happened - see also this thread!

Sounds like the flute would be doing the fingering for a change, instead of the other-way-'round.
