Im quite sure that back in the seventies I saw, on television, an uilleann piper using foot operated bellows. Did I imagine this or can anyone elaborate?

Yes, that was he, and born without a right elbow. A local craftsman made up a foot bellows for him that was mounted on a piece of plywood, and he was actually quite talented, although he only played left handed tunes. He also played the regulators with his right knee, and had his mainstock turned 180 degrees for that purpose. It was reported that he had fathered 12 children, 169 sheep, and 27 cows.

I remember that pic of footbellows piper was on first page of NPUmagazine ...(don't remember anymore what year it was.. early nineties?))
