- Tell us something.: I am interested in the uilleann pipes and their typical -and broader- use. I have been composing and arranging for the instrument lately. I enjoy unusual harmonic combinations on the pipes. I use the pipes to play music of other cultures.

Wanted: Sticky for "Pipes in the News"
I think it is about time there was a sticky for uilleann pipes in the news. That way, people would be aware of what is being published about the pipes without having to suffer through pipers using this forum as their own, self-promoting/self-congratulatory medium.
Just an idea. Long overdue.

Re: Wanted: Sticky for "Pipes in the News"
Do you think pipes actually show up in the news often enough to warrant a sticky? I am thinking of all the complaints in the past that there were too many stickies in the UP forum.

Pipers that are recognized in the media aren't necessarily using this forum as their own, self-promoting/self-congratulatory medium.
I believe they are using the media to advance the music and tradition of uilleann piping to the general public who would otherwise not be aware of the music or instrument as such.
Remember, the uilleann pipes were almost extinct back in the 1970's. You know the story.

Re: Wanted: Sticky for "Pipes in the News"
First, I trust the OP wasn't directed at anyone in particular.
Second, I think the suggestion is too narrow a topic area to merit a sticky.
Third, appearances by Chiffers in the press and in the media are of interest to many here. If that's not one's cuppa tea, you don't have to drink it.

So, it would be pipers using the media as their own, self-promoting/self-congratulatory medium.

True. But pipers who are frequently recognizing themselves in the media perhaps are.Richard Katz wrote:Pipers that are recognized in the media aren't necessarily using this forum as their own, self-promoting/self-congratulatory medium.

ouch.PJ wrote:So is passive-aggression .
But seriously, newspaper articles, radio spots, blogs, they could all be referenced there. What's the alternative to a sticky? Does one just create a Pipes in the News topic and go back over time and repopulate it?

Re: Wanted: Sticky for "Pipes in the News"
Just to be clear. We're not doing a sticky on this.
