James Galway? Oh, yeah, he's Irish, and he plays a flute, too! Yet, at the height of his flute playing career he was employed by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and although he has a wealth of flute recordings to his credit, you'll need to do some digging to find him playing any ITM.
I didn't have to dig, he does play a set of three hornpipes on tin whistle on one of his albums,(I can't remember which one) The Belfast hornpipe, The boys of Bluehill and Harvest home as I recall. Plays the tunes really well too, as I would expect, seeing that tin whistle and 'Orange flute' where what he played as a young boy.

Well, he indeed does play ITM, but for the most part it seems that he's kept his ITM activities in the background, not so public as of late.

BTW, when James Galway was at a young age, apparently he was an All-Ireland flute playing champion.

And, maybe he knows more about ITM than he publicly lets on to, eh?

Tonight our local PBS station is showing something similar called "Highland Heartbeat." At least they showed some nice pictures of Scotland.

As I was saying, it was years ago that I heard Enya on the radio, and, frankly, I hadn't given Enya's music much thought since then, at least until lately.

Today, moreover, and on the Internet, Enya's (and so many other's) music could sometimes be found on YouTube, but I have criticism of that, indeed.

For instance, YouTube commonly presents what could be both seen and heard, whereas music proper is only heard, and so on.

Moreover, to hear the musical value of any YouTube production, I'd suggest simply closing one's eyes, and then just listening.

And, that brings us back to a comparison of Celtic Woman and Enya, where perhaps one could be but a shadow of the other.

For instance, Orinoco Flow, as the original by Enya, and as then covered by Celtic Woman.

Hear the difference?

Actually, on this occasion I was thinking more about what I like, and what I don't like, about YouTube.

And, rather than start a fresh thread, I just plugged into an existing one.

As Paddy Cronin said to Liam O'Connor (accordion player) after one of his dance shows in Killarney, "Stick with the flashey shight because there's no money in real music!"

I agree and I know.

Thing is,
Once you decide to become a professional musician, i.e. playing your chosen instrument for a living, you must conform or starve.

For a while and maybe forever you'll end up playing in places where you'd rather jump out the window. Rarely it happens that you get a job with a show like the one I'm working with. I'm one of the lcky one's.
I have a great salary, the cast and crew are the nicest folk you'd ever meet, The mileage is a pain and I miss my wife and my home so much.
But, a gig is a gig.
As Tommy Potts said, "Once you get money for music, you are no longer an artist. You are an art dealer."

He's right.

But, it's a nice way to pay the bills.

Tommy,

Fully understood. Musicians shouldn't have to apologize for getting work!

Did I ever mention that Joni Mitchells grandmother came from Co. Cork?

Probably not...ah well.
