Shipping advice - From the US to Belgium and Russia

Post by jmccain »

Hi, I need to send a couple of whistles overseas. A low D to Belgium and a high D to Moscow.

Can anyone tell me what the best, and affordable, method would be? For example, DHL and UPS to Belgium ranges from $104.00 to $111.00 with about $1,000 of insurance.

Anyone know of anything cheaper? Like, lots cheaper.

Thanks!

What about USPS? From Canada to Europe is around $10 for a high whistle and $20 for a low one by the regular postal service. It's probably similar, or cheaper, from the US. You can pay a little extra for insurance.

I sent a high-D to Moscow a while back - it's quite cheap via USPS. I also shipped a flute to Spain via USPS... I don't think there is a better option.

Thanks very much for sharing your experiences.

My Russian correspondent is worried about the loss of the whistle if sent through USPS.

I've always used USPS with no problems. Any delays are usually due to the target country's customs.

USPS Express Mail International with insurance (includes tracking).

Or you can even use First Class International with Registered Mail.

Yeah, as has been said USPS is your best bet. Be sure to quiz the clerk on your options for tracking or insurance etc. Registered mail for example can't have clear tape on the package. Has to be brown paper tape or something.

I'm in Moscow, and I've personally received 3 packages from the US (thank you Carey for the latest one) and 1 from Canada (thanks go to David for this) all shipped via USPS. No problems encountered, average time is 2-3 weeks.

Hi Everybody

I don't know about Russia and Belgium, but sure I can tell you that I've received a lot of musical instruments from USA to China(also sent by some of the forum's members) all sent by USPS and never had a problem! Normally it only takes a week to arrive and so far none of them got lost !

Just my two cents !!!
