I ignored the voices and stayed home today, to the betterment and safety of my fellow citizens. I'll just stay here, sitting quiet and still ... polishing my guns ... again ...

I helped an old lady across the road. She didn't want to cross it, but that's beside the point.

I would like to take the chance to thank someone else, who acted to improve our lives.

Several years ago, we went through a period where things got tight enough to start getting pretty scary.

One day we found an envelope taped to our front door, containing several hundred dollars. It helped see us through.

A few years later, we found out who had helped us. When we can, we pay it forward. I don't think we've ever come out any worse off for having done so.

You can make a difference in someone's life.

A couple of months ago I was driving home from a session, with the family in the car, and on a very busy 4-lane highway (not a interstate). There was a young man attempting to push a car out of the travel lane, up a hill into a driveway, with a young lady in the driver's seat.
I pulled over, and helped him push the car into the driveway, and let him use my cell phone to call a friend to help him out, who was, luckily, just a few blocks away.

What was weird for me about this particular incident, is that this particular bout of altruism occured while I was in a rather pissy mood (don't recall why), but I snapped out of it when this situation presented itself.

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

I was at the Taco Bell drive thru a few weeks ago and when I went to pay, they guy said the car ahead had already paid for me, as one of those random acts of kindness things. I should have ordered more.

Skimming over this thread, I originally read "I married a lady from across the pond...she didn't want to cross it, but that's beside the point."

A long time ago I was in a Greyhound station and this elderly black man came up to me and asked to use my cell phone. I let him. As he was talking to his loved one, he said he had just spent all his money on a ticket but would have no spending money for a significantly long bus ride and he was also out of his blood pressure medicine. I heard bits and pieces of his conversation, but he had come to Kentucky for his daughter's funeral and was now headed back to Wyoming or Montana (I can't remember). He gave my phone back and sat down, crying to himself. He then had to go to the bathroom and asked me to watch his bags. As he was gone, I unzipped one of his duffle bags and put a $100 bill in it with a note that said, "God bless and keep you." (I was still a Christian at this point.) To this day, I wonder if I should have done that (I needed that $100!), but I am sure it made a difference to him. We had already gotten on our buses and headed back toward different parts of the continent before he found it, I'm sure.
