I'd rather hoped she'd not be returning to the hospital so soon. Best wishes to you both.

Good news! She is awake! This new heart has made so much difference to her!

Normally when Lesley wakes up she is weak and feeble, and pleasant! This time someone has swapped my normal wife for a stranger, a very cross stranger! She woke with a bang this morning and started firing questions at me immediately - "They wouldn't let me wake up! Are you all right? Is (friend of ours) all right? Have you got a pencil and paper? I need it now? Are you all right? Is (friend) all right?" Luckily I was prepared, with paper, manuscript paper, pencils etc. I know her well. She dictated at high speed while I scribbled, then she settled down! Phew! It really is Lesley.

I think she had been aware of trying to wake up and not being able to and had got more and more frustrated, so that when the sedation finally wore off just enough she was up and fighting. She said it had been a horrible feeling, still on the ventilator and desperate to say she was awake, but not able to do so. I don't know if she really was awake, but she was very obviously fighting earlier! She does not do medication well!

But, she is awake, lucid, relatively pain free, heart stable, moving everything that should move. Everyone here has breathed a sigh of relief, for in the night it could well have gone the other way, when she was very ill. Her stubbornness (tenacity, Denny?) has pulled her through again, to the amazement of the surgeon.

Oh, the other thing she said very early on was "Was that the revenge of Stupid Stick?" She is totally with it!

As you have seen all her verse so far, this is her latest. She still has her choices to make, my dear wife.

Wandering downhill alone
I understood. Again
The choice.
Follow the evening light to rest,
To the music that has called
For so long, or
Turn to the east,
Climb one more mountain,
Plod on upwards
Knowing that
From the summit,
Sunrise would still be mine.
The path is steep, but
I would like to see the sunrise again.
Behind me,
The sunset waits.

Thank you all, for being there for me so wonderfully, for your support and wishes for Lesley, for everything. You make all the difference when I am frightened and alone here in the dark.

That's lovely. Thank you for sharing it with us. :)

Me too!

I think it is just stubbornness - and possibly the desire not to let Stupid Stick win! She hates that stick, and as far as she is concerned it hates her. She could well be right!

At least she is still choosing to stay, if only to defeat the stick once and for all. Stubborn.

Lesley sure has attitude. Give us a heads up when she speaks with her doctors about keeping her asleep, we'll put in earplugs. Keep up the good work Ro.

An imp, I suspect. Seems in keeping with what we've gotten to know of her. :)

The new Lesley avatar is so pretty and full of character, that at first I thought it must be a still from a movie.

So relieved to hear the relatively good news after such a scare!!! Go get 'em, Lesley!

Lesley is making slow progress, but is improving. Having given her consultant a piece of her mind this morning about keeping her sedated, she has been pretty quiet for the rest of the day. She is in quite a bit of pain and is just on mild analgesia to make sure no damage is done to her heart. But she is not complaining, just lying quietly, holding my hand and listening to music. She is also writing a song, apparently, but it has not reached me yet! She looks awful and is very cross as they have cut some of her hair again. She said she had only just got respectable and now look at her! The white face and black-rimmed eyes don't help, either! But she is herself, positive and quietly confident that all will be well. She sends her love and thanks to you all and apologises for yet again being such a nuisance. She is one strong, wonderful woman.

I felt sorry for the poor consultant this morning. He did not know what had hit him! And he is a lovely man and would do anything for her - and has, of course.

Thank you all for your continuing kindness.

Lesley sure is her own person and has her own perspective about this whole thing. I don't think she's going to change now, other than getting better again, of course.
