So there really IS a day called "Talk like a pirate day"!! How have I missed that? Thanks to your website, narrowdog, I can practise all year and out-pirate all the pirates in September. Well, fancy that!

Stupid Stick has behaved himself for a couple of days. I think being decapitated had a sobering effect on him. We may never be friends but are working hard on the symbiotic relationship. He is not much good in snow, despite his brand new non-slip end bit, bought after he twice tripped me up in the kitchen. I can use him as a depth tester so that I don't inadvertently step into a 10 foot snow drift, anyway. But then again, he might lie! Never trust a stick that's out to get you. Stay paranoid; it's safer.

And yes, the snowy south is snowy. 200 people rescued from the road near Exeter last night, which is about 10 miles from us. And it is still snowing now. I am tired of wearing so many clothes that I can't bend my arms! At least the fact that my jeans are too big is useful: I can tuck 4 jumpers into them and still do them up!

Ah, we were supposed to be visiting the in-laws in East Budleigh this morning but Devon and half of Cornwall are paralysed. Only rain in Bude though, so no nice views this end today.

Oh, yes - eyepatch, tricorn hat, parrot, plank for making other people walk, skull and crossbones, treasure map, hook . . . The possibilities are endless! I shall start collecting now!

Some of my ancestors were wreckers in Cornwall, so that should give me a head start! But then again, some of the others were excise men, so I think they cancel each other out!

I can't find a link to verify it, but someone at work yesterday told me that someone not long ago stole a boat on nearby Lake George NY and when they were caught, they were charged with piracy! I'm thinking it would be worth it to steal one and intentionally get caught just for the bragging rights to legitimately say "Aaaarrrrgh! I be a pirate, matey!"

I'm sure your cell-mates would be suitably impressed.

All well here in Devon! Our snow has melted - for the moment - and pirate practice continues. I am looking for a parrot. Probably a boat would be handy too. Stupid Stick is behaving, but I fear that the fact that he is wearing a pirate hat does not bode well for our future together.

The hospital is quite pleased with me but I am still under weekly supervision from them and daily from Ro! Wait till I get the pirate stuff off pat! Then no one will gainsay me! Aaaaaaaaaarrrrr.

The blunderbuss can be a bit tricky to master.

But batten down the hatches for later tomorrow... :o

Oh, I can manage the blunderbuss all right, dj, don't you worry. Muskets, cutlasses, blunderbi (?) - all grist to the pirate mill.

And Steve, the hatches haven't been unbattened since the last time! Matches and candles ready, torches re-batteried, rugs and overcoats, trail mix, thermos flasks - weather, do your worst! I just don't like slippery weather much as it saps my confidence and leads Stupid Stick further into already bad ways. Take care in Cornwall, too!

Isn't every day "Talk Like a Pirate" day in Cornwall.

Talk like a fish day more like it. It's been chucking it down non-stop for hours and hours.

Sounds like water off a duck's back, though an image of Steve waddling like a duck just doesn't sit well.
