FS: Hawkes and Son 8 key cocus flute

Post by O_Gaiteiro_do_Chicago »

I have a really nice Hawkes and Son I need to sell. The Hawkes I have is serial#2612, and is in really great shape overall. I had Jon C repair the original headjoint, and a few small cracks in the body. He also made me an additional cocus headjoint with matching rings. It's a killer flute, it'll knock your socks off. Actually some fellow bandmates of mine are annoyed by this flute, they claim it's too loud..... ;) The tuning is spot on, and the keywork is all in working order. It has a Boehm style foot, which is a lot easier to maintain. The flute even comes with the original case, as well as the two cork grease containers, and cleaning rod. I am asking a very fair price of $2,500, Hawkes and Son flutes are not all that common, and they are a great workhorse of a flute. I will post pics later this evening, have to run out and get some batteries for the camera.

geez, it sounds like I have the very same flute!
If it's anything like mine it is definitely a 'honker!' I am trading mine for a Bb though. I have a Pratten that honks incredibly well, so....
can't wait to see the pics!

Below are the pictures, and I have one detail that I forgot. This particular flute is the "Excelsior Sonorous Class" which was their top of the line model.

That's a beaut, Ted! If I had the dosh (I haven't!) I'd be in there - just exactly what one would want by way of a Pratten style flute and a very fair price. Isn't it beautiful grained cocus? And a well matched for colour new head from Jon C.

Yep, it the same flute I have, 'cept mine's the 'Superior Class.' Guess it's not 'top of the line,' but it's pretty damn nice!

Tell us something.: Hello, I make flutes for Irish traditional music. Three models in D (Large and small Rudalls and a Pratten), a Boosey Eb, and a Rudall Bb.

I've done flute business with Ted (aka O_Gaiteiro) in the past. It was a good experience, very straight forward.

Best,

I used to own this flute. It is really nice and an outstanding player. Bigger sound and more Pratten-like than some of the Hawkes.
