Lesley is still hanging on, and they did not expect her to last the night. The doctors think that they have sorted the drug regime and the infection is under control. It is now a question of whether her strength lasts until the new medication kicks in properly. She is very weak.
I have come home for an hour while they do some stuff with her and will be going back as soon as I can. I will keep you updated.
Please know how much your help and support mean to me - I am alone here and very frightened. Thank you all.

As a practical matter, it's a good thing that she got to where she is when she did, as at the right place at the right time.

On the upside, apparently she did make it through the night, and her new medication has had that much more time to get working.

Please remind her that her C&F audience awaits her return!

Meanwhile, Ro, there's no better place for her to be. This matter of infection is not new, and those managing it are expert.

I have been with Lesley for a few more hours and again come away while she is treated. She remains unconscious and is hanging on by a thread, I am told, but every hour gives her more of a chance. Thank you all.

Perhaps it could be said that every, individual patient could represent an individual challenge to a medical team, no two patients the same.

Yet, the longer a team works with a patient, perhaps the more familiar the team could become with the needs of that particular patient.

In that sense, moreover, it appears that Lesley's team now stands a better chance today, than at any time before.

Besides, she's already shown herself to be a resilient individual.

Lesley is restless now, although still unconscious. I am allowed to play music to her and am now taking the laptop and headphones to her -all I have with us as we did not expect this. But most of her music is here and perhaps that will work the miracle. It has before.

Flowers likely are out of season in your area, but could there be a nearby florist?

It's a sensory thing, but perhaps the smell of a fresh, sweet (non-hospital) fragrance could work wonders.

Replace with fresh as needed, perhaps daily.

Lesley has woken, recognised me and the music I was playing and gone to sleep. She is very weak and frail and is not out of danger but sleep is the best thing for her. I have been sent home to do the same.
Thank you all. Your many good wishes, thoughts and prayers have yet again helped to save my dear wife.

I was called back to the ward at about 0200 as Lesley was distressed and only partly conscious. I held her hand and played her music and she settled again. I have phoned this morning and she is resting quietly. I am just going back.
