Favorite line in The Wizard of Oz

Post by Dale »

It's not "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore, Toto."

My favorite moment. Dorothy first meets the Scarecrow who tells her he has no brain.

Dorothy: How can you talk if you have no brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know.

Doesn't he go on to explain that a lot of people seem to be able to do that?

"...and your little dog too!"

Although that line was not in the book.

I don't think this is from the book, but I love this line from the movie....when Auntie Em is talking to Mrs. Gluch as she takes Toto away for being a "menace to society"

"Almira Gulch. Just because you own half the county doesn't mean that you have the power to run the rest of us. For twenty-three years I've been dying to tell you what I thought of you! And now... well, being a Christian woman, I can't say it! "

The witch, as she's going down the hatch....

Ohhh -- you cursed brat! Look what you've done! I'm melting! Melting! Oh - - what a world -- what a world! Who would have thought a good little girl like you could destroy my beautiful wickedness!? Ohhh! Look out! Look out! I'm going.

and I always laugh at:

Dorothy: He said oil can!
Scarecrow: Oil can what?

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

I love the song when they're coming out of the woods, and the Lollipop Guild is truly inspired genius.

I've got a daughter who can recite the whole dialog, word for word. She use to keep us entertained when we were setting out tobacco by doing The Wizard of Oz. Her daughter is now following in the tradition. A month ago we went to see a live stage production and she pointed out what the said/did differently.

Anyway, my favorite line is part of the lyrics to Ding Dong the Witch is Dead-

"She's gone where the goblins go
below, below, below"
"Let low-country intruder approach a cove
And eyes as gray as icicle fangs measure stranger
For size, honesty, and intent."

It says something in it about the ape in apricot. I find that amusing.

So, has anyone else ever played Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon along with the movie?

I actually did try that once. It was interesting. Never bought the idea, though, that it was anything other than coincidences.

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.
