My mother

Post by Dale »

My mother has had a stroke. She's hospitalized in Arkansas in good condition. Her speech and cognition appear largely unimpaired (but for medication effects) but has no movement or sensation in her left arm and she may have some other left-side weakness. Neurologists are optimistic she'll have good return of functioning and she'll transfer to a physical rehab floor as soon as she can.

Wanted my C&F friends to know.

So sorry, Dale. Best wishes for her full and speedy recovery! Hope you're holding up OK, too.

I'm very sorry Dale. Your mother and your whole family are in my prayers.

My mom had a stroke about 4 years ago - it's such a helpless feeling when something like this happens to a loved one.

I hope it goes well. My Dad recently left rehab--the stroke floor--although his impairment came from a subdural hematoma rather than
a stroke. The therapies were more or less similar. My mom is struggling with it at home now.
I'm sending a piece of advice via pm.

There have been such huge improvements in treatment for stroke over the last ten years that there is much room for optimism. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Dale,

Enjoy them while they're with you, for moms simply don't last forever.

I'll keep you both in my thoughts and hopes.

I cannot add anything more meaningful than what Cork just said above me.

I'll add my own prayers and thoughts to the list. I hope she fares well.

Are you able to go up to visit her?

Stroke is always a frightening diagnosis, but many people do make a complete recovery, and hopefully you'll have your mom still for many more years.

Warmest healing thoughts and best wishes for a complete and speedy recovery!

Wishes for her full recovery. Frustrating and scary for all, sure, but often enough, excellent results can await. We had a family friend who had a stroke. Not only did he come back from it, but he then threw himself into helping others rehab too.

Sorry to hear your mum is unwell, Dale. I hope her road to recovery is swift and free of too many obstacles.

I have known a number of people who have suffered strokes, and I'm happy to say that they have all made good recoveries. I don't know the statistical chances for good progress, but in my personal experience it has been the norm.

Your mum has plenty of people thinking of her - and so do you, mate.
