No, I did not know that. Since I am unfamiliar with the teas you mention I'm afraid it doesn't convey much to me.

A friend from Pakistan once described to me how they make tea back home. They don't just add boiling water, the literally stew the leaves, then add thick milk and stew it some more. It sounded like quite a process. I think I'll just stick to my very dark roast mountain-grown Arabicas, thx.

If I wanted smoky I'd stir my tea with a burnt stick.

djm - they're all just "normal" tea, just brand names. I like my tea normal, not malty, smoky, pepperminty, floor sweepingy (Earl Grey), railroad tie-ey or with any other mad flavour. Think English Breakfast.

Often more important then the leaf is the milk. I've been drinking tea with skimmed milk* for over 20 years, so the greasy slime that coats the surface of the tea and the inside of my mouth from even 2% fat is unpleasant. If I'm desperate for a cuppa then I'll suffer in silence, or more likely suffer with a lot of whingeing.


*In the UK cow milk comes in 3 varieties, skimmed, semi-skimmed and full fat. To confuse customers, the carton tops are usually coloured green red and blue respectively, but not always consistently between different vendors, so read the label if you're out of your home patch. Semi-skimmed is low fat, skimmed is essentially no fat.

Concerning Tea, I'm ambiguous. I like bog-standard, Pg Tips, Typhoo or Direct Trade Black Teabags.

I also like Rooibush, Genmai Cha, Formosa Oolong Jasmine, Lapsang Suchong if it shows a little restraint, and Earl Grey. The key is not to add milk to China tea. It sounds obvious, but I know people to whom it comes as a revelation.

In general I agree with Steve about Fruit Teas, but I've found Blackcurrant Bracer is quite nice, if you let it stew for five minutes. No milk in that one either. :wink:
