Blackbird Clips

Post by MTGuru »

I recorded a couple of demo sound clips of the Jerry Freeman Blackbird D whistle:

Mouse in the Mug: http://www.box.net/shared/t92q6zhbm4

Jean's Reel: http://www.box.net/shared/cmcvr1ubcr

More to follow (I hope) as the week progresses ...

Cheers!

This is going to make coming up with a logo for this whistle even harder.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Tell us something.: I am not a spammer. If I was, I'd probably like spam and egg sandwiches with a little cheddar cheese on top. Or maybe just pancakes.

My apologies if I have missed this somewhere but I haven't been able to find any details of the "tweak" that is done on this whistle. Also, where does the black head come from? Did I understand correctly that the body is a nickel Generation? If so have the toneholes been worked or are they stock?
I would be interested in seeing some up-close pics of the tweaked headjoint if they are readily available.

Cheers

Jerry Freeman wrote:The Blackbird is a tweaked whistle. I use a nickel D Feadog to start with, but it would confuse people to refer to it as a tweaked or modified Feadog, since it's nothing like a standard Feadog.

It's a Scottish tune by accordionist Bobby McLeod of Tobermory, Mull, but it sounds kind of Cape Breton-ish to me.

http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/255

Mine is a poor imitation of a setting by Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh that I learned somewhere. I left out the B part for the demo clip.

Some accessible versions:

Orla McAuliffe (flute, 2nd tune)

Hey there's something wrong with my Blackbird. It doesn't play nearly that well.

Excellent tooting John, just excellent.
