I'm glad there are some leftovers.
I'd be sorry seeing the most educative garage-sale thread I ever read end up prematurely... :smile:

Here are the two formulas:

Equal Temperment: frequency * 1.0594631 = note spacing.

Just Intonation:
Tonic Note = Freq * 1/1
2nd = Freq * 9/8
3rd = Freq * 5/4
4th = Freq * 4/3
5th = Freq * 3/2
6th = Freq * 5/3
7th = Freq * 15/8
Octave = Freq * 2/1

Don't you love there garage sale threads!

I want the Weasel Doc. I sent you an email. I would take the Eb but I don`t want to get crazy.

Oh c'mon get a little crazy :grin:

I'm a doctor I could give you note for your wife if you need one. Do you think she'd go for a note from a vet?

Hey I know! We'll tell her you were "sick as a dog". That'd work. :lol:

Wow! Daniel thank you. Your posting already copied-pasted in my Album.

BTW, how would you derive from that the not-so-just tuning of a bagpipe chanter (GHB) and Uillean ?

The Water Weasel is going to live with Tom and his Morgan. That's a horse, by the way, for those who may not be aware.

Dan, you managed to summarize very concisely what I hadn't found in several searches of The Repository of All Knowledge. And it bears out what many say: in whistle terms, the F#, B, and C# are all sharp in an equal-tempered scale. What I didn't realize is HOW sharp:

Here are the frequencies of an A major scale, with equal temperament in the first column, then just temperament and the fractional difference relative to a half step:

440. 440. 0.0000
494. 495. -0.0379
554. 550. 0.1334
587. 586.6 0.0209
659. 660. -0.0189
740. 733.3 0.1534
830. 825. 0.1143
880. 880. 0.0000

Also, 5-7 Hertz differences are REALLY obnoxious to hear.
