I had a workplace acquaintance years ago who was a Jehovah's Witness, and she adamantly defied the whole birthday/holiday thing. Same reason? Different reason? I specifically recall her always taking a "holiday" on Halloween to avoid the whole "The reason I'm not wearing a costume today ..." thing.

So? What gives?
Jack, are you sure you weren't mistakenly attending church at a Kingdom Hall

Traditionally (for most of their history) Quakers celebrate no holy days (the origin of the word "holiday"), including Christmas, Easter, birthdays, etc. Only in the last hundred years or so has the celebration of holy days become the norm, but there are still groups of Quakers (mainly in the Ohio valley area and a few groups in England) who do not celebrate holy days. They're Wilburite, which I was, and are the minority in modern times. I'm not a Quaker apologist (anymore, at least) so I'll leave it at that.

Happy Birthday, my young friend. May you find each worthy of note, and never regret a one. You only get so many, of course, so don't waste any!

Measure them on how much you've learned and grown in your life, not on just the years that pass.

A tip of the hot chocolate cup to you!

Sorry I'm late.

Happy Birthday, Jack.

Here's a picture of me, my boyfriend, and two of my closest friends.

Brian surprised me with an ice cream cake, and this was right before I was gonna cut it:

We shoulda kidnapped you and taken you to New Orleans
when he could of. You are looking way too normal.
Also you seem to have taken up breeding mice,
of all things.

Wait, there is a mad gleam in your eye as you wield
that knife. Also your friend had a straw up her nose.
OK, disregard the above.
