Selling My froment Set...

Post by benwalker »

Unfortunatly due to economic necessity... The Monster 4 reg Froment concert set I own needs to find a new home.
The set was originally made for Jim McGuire and is the only 4 reg concert set in existance (so I am aware)
I am a professional piper and the set has been kept in excellent working order. The chanter hasn't been used much as I use my O' Briain chanter. There is no chanter reed in the Froment chanter but I can sort something out with the buyer and get a working reed for it.

I am really sorry to let this set go but the economics and such mean I have to sell this beautiful set and downsize to something a little less extravagent.

Asking price...offers over £7500 which is what I bought them for around 3 1/2 years ago.

For pics of the set email me at ben@benwalker.org

Cheers

Ben,

I'm sorry to hear you're having to downsize. Just to pick you up on the comment about four regulator concert sets, Dave Williams made two that I know of, here's a link to Marc Guilloux's set made around 1982

only 4 reg concert set in existance
As least you qualified if with a (so I am aware)

There are a number of makers who produce concert sets with more than the 'standard' three regulators.

Patsy Touhey in his 'hints to amateur pipes' states that 3 regulators and three drones is normal but plays a set with four regulators and 2 drones. Have seen working drawings of it and there is an 'e' regulator tucked away underneath in place of the baritone drone nearly out of sight in photographs him.

Anyone know if any of the tracks on the NPU produced CD feature Touhey using this regulator ?

Ben,

Any chance you would post a pic or two of the set? I'd like to see it, even if I can't affoard to bid on it.

What additional notes does the 4th reg provide?

Sorry to hear that Ben.

I take it you don’t have you old Frankenset anymore either?

You shouldn't have any trouble selling it though.

Good luck with the sale Ben!

For those interested, here is Ben's website, the home page has a partial photo of the pipes in question.

Tell us something.: I am interested in the uilleann pipes and their typical -and broader- use. I have been composing and arranging for the instrument lately. I enjoy unusual harmonic combinations on the pipes. I use the pipes to play music of other cultures.

Most likely F#, E, and D below the G of the bass reg.

It's been good to me. But then I've worked at it just about 7 days/week for 17 years. My last vacation was in 2002 (to pick up a set of pipes in Spain!) When you have your own business, you don't work full-time, you work life-time.
