This Rocks!

Post by Cork »

OK, so you might not understand any of the words to this tune, but for those who could remember Rock and Roll, this has the drive, and the beat.

Go to: http://myspace.com/wenchem and click on what's now the third tune down, "Sahtta go na".

Rock and Roll never dies?

I'm guessing this is a joke, but I don't get it.

No joke, it's music, and although the words used might be totally incomprehensible, it's Rock and Roll, no doubt.

Here, however, I'm only calling out one track in particular, the tune called "Sahtta go na".

And, perhaps the target audience could flashback about four decades or so.

Call it a generational thing, or something like that.

Rock and roll in a kind of milque-toasty-80's-middle-of-the-road-one-hit-wonder-danced-to-it-a-couple-of-times-but-would-never-buy-the-album kind of way

I would actually class this as an 80's pop sound but Rock is pretty big umbrella.

That's how I heard it. Turns out Saami makes a good language for Rock, anyway.

Is that what that is?

I wonder if Saami is what is being sung in Louie Louie.

Sometimes I think it might as well be.

Well, perhaps the genre of Rock and Roll could have long been out of the mainstream.

Yet, while this particular recording could be several years old, it somehow delivers. Frankly, it has the "drive".

Really, imagine, a far away group of musicians, of a whole 'nother language, could authentically discover the essence of Rock and Roll, indeed.

After all these years, I'm impressed.

BTW, I don't understand a single word of it.

Enjoy!

I'm convinced that you don't know the first thing about Rock and Roll.

BTW, Nano, I'm beginning to wonder about you, too.

Now, people, listen to "Sahtta go na" again. Can anybody here say that they can't feel the backbeat?

I don't get it either. Yeah, there's a strong snare beat on 2 & 4. It also has an incessently generic "strum...strum...strum-strummy-strum" acoustic guitar riff. And some annoying electronic effects. It sounds a bit like J-Pop to me. I'd call it pop, not rock, but you can call it what you like. I miss the point. You really like it? Or you're surprised there's rock in Norway?

It is crap ... sorry, I meant drivel. That's why I thought at first that it must be a joke.

There's a lot of good rock and pop music in Norway, but this isn't it.

This one was a world hit:

I was never a great fan, but I did like the video. Funny thing is I had the opportunity to see them live at a very small venue before they where famous, but decided to spend the evening in the hotel room with my then girlfriend.

What? It's...nice. Let it rival "Kashmir" or "Heroes" or "Yellow" or "Joey" or "Hurt", and we'll have something to talk about. À chacun son goût, and all that. I like my rock anthemic and strange.

FWIW, I really don't listen to popular music on my own time any more.
