Do I have to be, like, a geek, or something, to get it? 'Cause I don't (and I'm not).

Sorry.

Thank you, Nano, I don't feel so bad now. I don't get it either.

I AM a geek but I'm an academic geek (a math teacher with a second masters degree in civil engineering), not a computer geek or gaming geek. I'll stick my geeky neck out and guess it's some kind of computer game joke.

Yeah, I'm not a gamer, either. Yes, I am lame.

I like it, but then I've read the book Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.

A lot of it has humor that you would have to have a base of knowledge.

Schrodinger would make no sense unless you knew a bit about his theories.

A lot of the xkcd jokes are physics or mathematics related actually.

Schrodinger made me laugh.

The Enders one I just kind of stared at trying to figure out whether I'd missed a crucial detail.

Here is the genius of xkcd: many comics try to be moderately humorous to
thousands of people. xkcd tries to be uproariously funny to hundreds of
people. It's rare that every day of xkcd even reaches the same set of people,
but you can be assured that if you didn't get it, nonetheless somewhere,
someone is dieing of laughter.

There are times I think the show 30Rock has started to hit upon this niche
humor, particularly the episode in which they invoked both the Uncanny Valley
and the movie Amadeus.

This is probably my favorite relatively obscure xkcd (at least recently):

NO, but the only game I have ever played was PAK Man, once, in about 1976 :D

I was wondering why anyone named "Orson Card" would feel the need for a further distinguishing mark, i.e., "Scott". But I think I know: he probably got fed up of being called "orse and cart" :)

I got the Ender's Game reference failed to grasp the humor.

I got a snicker out of fearfaoin's post.

Mayhaps I'll check out the site.

Here's one with wider appeal (still a strange humor, though).
