Most of the manufacturers have sound samples, but even so, a lot depends on the player and their style. A beginner is certainly not going to make a Generation sound like Mary Bergin does. So even sound samples need to be taken with a grain of salt.WARD1066 wrote:It seems everyone has different tastes. It would be really cool to have a page where there are samples of every whistle, like syn, sindt, abell etc then let people look and decide for themselves which they like best based on the sound.
Is there anything like that out there somewhere?

Ward try this web site.

Tony Hinnigan played whistle on the Titanic sound track and quena on the Braveheart soundtrack. This is his old grey whistle test page of his web site. He doesn't play every whistle you will want to hear, but quite a few, even some cheapies.

[quote="Peter Laban"]What's best? Horses for courses.
I have also five test-drive prototypes on the table before me (my guess is they're the same as MT's Teleman whistle) that are all lovely (if all with marginally different characteristics), clear, easy to play and well balanced and will probably end up under $50 when they go on sale. They'd be my pick up and play whistle for sound and playability right now.

Very interesting. Has it yet been decided whether these whistles will be available through a UK based supplier when they go on sale ?

I am starting to suspect that the great JF has something up his sleeve. Maybe something built from scratch rather than just tweaking someone else's product?Jerry Freeman wrote:Yes.

Well now I'm feeling a bit both in and out of the know as I've only had the opportunity to try one of these babies.MagicSailor wrote:HiI am starting to suspect that the great JF has something up his sleeve.
