(bleep) me !!!

Post by lazyleft »

Okay I.m a philistine but ...what happened to the good old days as I remember them. When I started playing we did it in back street pubs and we did it cos life was pretty (bleep) miserable and listening to some old (bleep) on a box or even a comb and paper made a lot more sense than listening to faggots like mick (bleep) jagger and the (bleep) like.
I just phoned home and was told that a MAN who also played the accordian had finally once and for all (bleep) himself up with the drink. He may even be known to some on this site. He didn't have much of a mind when I knew him....I guess even that has gone now.But he was one of the greatest musicians and Catholics you could ever hope to meet.
What was ever wrong with having a set of balls and an instrument and an alcohol problem? I've read so much sh*t on this site from a bunch of over educated (bleep) yuppies to last a (bleep) lifetime. If you have an instrument (bleep) play the sh*t out of it and the more tasteless you play probably the better you will be. Maybe I.m tired.Maybe I don't know what I'm trying to say. Maybe I hate over educated (bleep), Maybe I drank too much. (bleep) me...I just discovered that they edited the x out of me. What the x is going on here?

One of the beauties (always) of traditional music is its inclusivity - "over" educated (is that possible?) bleeps amongst farm hands or whatever. And like any field of human activity, it is legitimately the subject of academic observation and enquiry as well as participation. Nowt wrong with that as long as there are also plenty of folks just playing - and there'd probably be significantly less of those if it weren't for the "academic", upper and middle class collectors and "experts" of the last 200 years! The thing is to have fun and enjoy without becoming too serious and up-back-end-ish, whether just doing or examining and researching.....

Nuff of that. To follow up treeshark's apposite contribution:-

One great thing about music is that the gift/interest crosscuts
education, income, political inclination, religion,
race, gender.... In the groups I jam with, there are all
sorts of people, united by this
great love.
What a relief to get away from academics!

In New Orleans (where I lived a long time)
the only time black and white truly got together
was at concerts. I figure if it weren't for music,
us humans would have all killed each other long ago.

The point is that
over-educated pansy green-tea slurping yuppies are musicians too,
the ones possessed by the demon, anyhow.
We are all one in this thing.

Yeah, it was a great post. From the heart.
I lived in Calgary for two years in the late sixties,
by the way. Should have heard the things I said.

Not a bad post at all as rants go, maybe better than most.

As Jim said, from the heart, and with some truth to be found in it: there's nothing wrong with discussions and studying things academically, but at some point if your going to play the music you've got to put the flute to your mouth and play the damn thing.

And I've found it's hard to keep talking when you've a flute to your mouth.
