Just wanted everyone to know that we recently tried making our Professional Model Pennywhistle out of plastic. We were having too many issues when voicing the Permali, which is beautiful but fickle. I've always felt that playablity should be a high priority; Polycarbonate, ABS and Delrin heads are VERY consistent (during and after manufacture) and they voice like the whistles we've always wanted. The material comes with FDA approval.
I also wondered if people would miss the beauty of the woodgrain, so I made up some samples. Whistles 1, 2 and 3 are all plastic, while Permali (the laminate) makes up increasing portions of numbers 4 and 5. We’d like to make everyone happy (hence the survey), but ultimately, we’ll have to make a decision.
In the near future, we'll use plastic for the Pro-Mellows, too (same price). Thanks for reading.
