2012 demonstration sport
Given the expected ratings triumph that is Beach Volleyball, can it be long ere the world sees pole-dancing as the Olympic games latest demonstration sport?
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

He speaks sooth. They have indeed.Walden wrote:I heard that the Olympic Committee actually mandated that they had to all have bikini uniforms, because it would bring more viewers. I think it was Paul Harvey said it.
In fact, the Chinese organizing comittee even went to the extent of training a corps of Beijing lasses to do major-league style cheerleading, in the process also acclimatizing them to also wear bikinis, which is less than most chinese are accustomed to wearing in public.

Funny you should mention pole dancing... I saw something in the NYT online recently, about how some enterprising Chinese woman has been promoting pole dancing into the newest exercise fad in China. That's a little hard to picture. But apparently pole dancing is pretty much alien to the Chinese, so they have no connotations (*cough* strip clubs *cough*) with pole dancing, if the NYT article is accurate.
Yes, but they won't be playing then and another huge group of well proportioned young sports players will take their place.Lambchop wrote:Tsk! That's a dermatologist visit just waiting to happen! Not a good message to send, if you ask me. <hmpf>
Ratings are about the now, not the consequences.

One hopes that they are all sprayed thoroughly with spf 70 before taking the field/sand, and that they spend their bench time (and the remaining percentage of their days) exercising more care.
I am rooting for the broad-brimmed hat to become fashionable again.

I'm doing my part, by wearing a somewhat dorky looking wide brimmed hat as I mow the lawn. I figure that I'm setting an example, showing people that it's okay to wear dorky looking wide brimmed hats.emmline wrote:

The odd thing about the picture above, of the v-ball players, is how pale they are, relatively. You would think they'd already be quite tan from having played that sport on a regular basis.

I believe the politically correct term for "dorky looking" clothing is "sensible" clothing.MusicalADD wrote:I'm doing my part, by wearing a somewhat dorky looking wide brimmed hat as I mow the lawn.
