G'day all, My name is Mick. I'm new to whistles in a round about way. I've been toying with them on and off over the years, but have recently gotten serious about them. I have most of the Generation whistles, two Megs, a Walton mellow D and most recently I bought an O'Brien Rover. I also plan on getting an Overton/Goldie tunable Low D soon.
It might seem I may be buying some of the more expensive instruments early into my learning stage, but when I worked out that I spent over $100 on the Generations alone, I figured I should have done this sooner.
Anyway, I've been lurking around in the shadowy fringes of this forum for several weeks now and thought it about time I came into the firelight and introduced myself. I hope to learn a lot more here, and I'm sure I will have some questions to be answered along the way.
Talk to you all soon.

Hello, Mick, welcome!
When you're ready to start socking away change for that custom whistle, don't feel guilty for the ones you have already bought. After all, you need a whistle for your desk, your car, your backpack, kayak, storage rack, everywhere and anywhere you might be at any given moment. I hate it when I go out to my back porch and think, "ARRRRGH! I should have brought my whistle!!"

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Riverman, I hear ya brother! Since recently acquiring my Rover 3 piece it has hardly left my side. I've already got rub marks where my fingers and thumbs come into contact with it. Mind you though, the N/S plating isn't the thickest I've seen, but I'm not complaining as I like the character it gives it.
Chrisp, I do get that Mick Dundee thing a bit...I still smile and am a fan of all the Dundee movies. Gotta love that knife! Here's one I made myself...

Welcome, Mick! As I recall, Redcliffe is just outside Brisbane - am I right? I was stationed at RAAF Amberley back in the late 80's...

Nice knife too mate.......is it a Damascus blade ? or is the reflection from the grass ??
I wanted to get into knifemaking but a bung shoulder put paid to all the hammering...still have the forge set up though...

Thanks for the welcome Weedie. The knife is mirror polished, so what you see is reflection. I have a forge setup at my familys property, but since I hardly get out there I do most of my work by stock removal. The one pictured is 45cm o'all and was done completely using hand tools. My shoulders ache just thinking about it now.

I ordered a Goldie/Overton Low D the other day. It will totally out class my miserable abilitys but I will work at getting good enough to do it the justice it will deserve.

Welcome!

Nice bit of work, that knife. I bet you will be trying your hand at whistle making before long.

I trust you know about OZ Whistles. Mitch seems to stock almost every whistle brand I know. Sounds like he travels to shows over much of the country.
