Intrigued by Ocarinas
I just recently came upon the Ocarina and I am quite impressed with the sounds from this compact little whistle like instrument. I'm thinking about getting a Mountain Ocarina. Anyone else out there feel the same?

I have one of the Mountain Ocarina's in plastic (key of G, I think). It's a great little instrument. The only limitations are it's non-tuneability and the 1 1/2 octave range. The fingering on the MO is basically the same as a recorder and, yes, it IS chromatic! I'm not sure I'd invest in the wood version, though...

I fell in love with the ocarina sound due to
Eric Tingstad And Nancy Rumbel

Nancy plays Ocarina, oboe and english horn.
Wonderful stuff!
I have a small, cheap plastic ocarina.

I got to whistles through my love of ocarinas. I have hundreds of them! Well, maybe only a hundred. But lots. I'm also a member of the Ocarina Club on yahoo. They'll talk you into making your own! And that's a lot of fun--although my personal experience was that mine were never quite as good as the professionals'. . . but they can play music, and that's rewarding, even if they are a bit lumpy.

kintailpipes I would recommend a Mountain Ocarina.
After alot of research online I bought a plastic G for my sister.
I tried it myself and the fingering was easy, very similar to the whistle.
In under 5 minutes of playing with it I could play any tune (provided it fit inside the ocarinas octave range) that I knew on the whistle, on the ocarina.
The quality felt good, it didn't feel like a piece of cheap plastic.
I'm considering getting a C ocarina from them for myself, although I have other instruments I want as well, so its not on the top of my list.
I wouldn't get a wooden one, at about 4 times the price, it would look nice, but I doubt it would be worth it. After reading everything I could on their website, it seems that ALL of their sound samples are the plastic ocarina and not the others. So if you like the sound samples, you'll like the plastic ocarina.
