As of 1 hour ago I have a mandolin. Don't know how to play it yet, though.

I'm a beginer on the Mando. I play a Moon standard mandolin made in Glasgow, Scotland.

Why? Is it easy?

I guess I can pluck a tune or two but I really don't have any idea what I'm doing.

I have a book but I haven't gotten very far with it yet. I get impatient and just want to play some tunes.

When I started I was new to ITM also. I got the tune list from the nearest session, and made a ton of tablature. That probably helped as much as anything.

I was just kidding about the "couple of hours" thing, but I do think the Mandolin is relatively easy to learn compared to, say, fiddle. The fingering is the same, but picking is 'WAY simpler than bowing and the frets help make up for inaccuracies in fingering. Keep at it-- it's a great instrument.

Yup, except for chording the ukulele, the mando is probably the easiest stringed instrument. Does take more than a couple of hours though. Stick with it and have fun! D

Me too. Don't tell anyone.
