Alright, Laura/Hillfolk asked me to post this image. Frankly, it frightens the bejaysus out of me, but here it is anyways  Don't blame me if it causes trauma or irrational fear of clowns for the rest of your life!

Beth has a great camera and she took some wonderful pictures. Here are a few more photos she took while she was traveling and kindly shared with us. Hope she doesn't mind me sharing them here.

Okay, so my cat Fargo isn't exactly playing a whistle here. However he appreciates whistles in that he doesn't seem to mind, even seems to like the sound of whistle playing. Here he is asking for a tummy scratch, though the camera flash reflection in his eyes makes him look more like he's been possesed by one of the crystal people.

Here's a little something different. The following are links to mp3s of songs my mom (Nadine Laughlin) and I recorded.
The first one is studio recording of a song called "Almost Gone", which she wrote for her dad when he was dieing of Alzheimers. It has a little bit of my whistle playing on it (Burke composite low G).

The second is a live performance of our arrangement of the hymn "Be Thou My Vision", featuring her on piano and voice, her band on assorted instruments and myself on whistle (also the Burke). This has considerably more whistle in it. Astute observers will notice that whistle intro is more than a little bit inspired by the air by Tommy Peoples, "The Gentle Breeze". It's not exactly the same, and couldn't be due to time constraints. Tommy is a friend of mine and he was fine with this (be gentle on me here Stevie and Peter... I know how the air really goes... this was just an "artistic decision" ). You'll also notice that I really mess up a couple of the notes towards the end of the song. We had only rehearsed twice with the whistle and I was a little confused

Anyways, both of these are big files, about 4-5 megabytes each, so they may take a really long time over dialup. One way or the other, I hope you enjoy them. They're not trad, and not representative of the kind of music I play most of the time, but they are darn nice. I hope you like them. I plan to post a few more over the next couple of days.

Almost Gone

Be Thou My Vision

Chris

Here's another, much nicer picture sent to my by Laura/Hillfolk for posting. I'm really glad she sent this, because I was in the corner in fetal position crying after this last one. This one's really, really nice.

Here's her note that came with it:

"It is me and my children playing an open stage.
No whistles, however we were playing Daggets Revenge
I changed the title to Mommy's Revenge.
Is that a cuttie pie thing or not? "

Thank you Laura!

None of these files are actually stored on the Chiff and Fipple servers. They're all stored on the servers of whoever posted them. Therefore they don't use up any of the Chiffboard's bandwidth. The only thing that uses up Chiffboard bandwidth is text.
Best,
Chris

Chris, those are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! Can I save it to my desktop?? I want to listen to those over and over. You guys should make a CD, I'm serious. I would buy it!

Edit: I just read my message and to my complete horror, there was a very bad typo in Chris' name. I am so sorry and apologize very, very much if anyone read it. I never, ever say things like that. I just meant to write "Chris" and accidentally added a letter. I'm sorry!!!

Don't worry. I was pretty sure you were joking. You're okay after all.

Cees -
Thank you for the kind words. The CD is being recorded as we speak!

Cees-
If you want to save on it just right click on the link and choose "Save" or the equivalent. It will prompt you for where you want to save them to. Choose your desktop and voila, you can listen to them whenever you want. You are also more than welcome to burn them to CD and share them around if you like. Just tell people that they were writting and performed by Nadine Laughlin and her band (with me on whistle).
Best,
Chris
